My hubby’s granny who was holidaying with us last month is an expert in making this sweet. Before she left for her home, I set out making the sweet under her watchful eyes with adequate help from my mom-in-law (who joined us for a few days) and a whole lot of help from my hubby (to dig in) !!
The sweet can also be made in microwave, which is a lot easier and i heard tasty too- am yet to try that out, will keep you posted ! The dish requires a very few ingredients – milk, sugar, elaichii (optional) but it requires your full attention during the making; else the bottom of the pan may get browned n scorched giving the sweet a burnt taste. We made a big batch of the sweet using 3 litres of milk – i have given the recipe for 1 litre. You can garnish with nuts for the added effect !
- Other ways you can enjoy this scrumptious sweet — sandwich spread, stuffing for rotis or even pizza topping !
What goes:-
- Milk – 1 litre
- Sugar – 175 gm -to taste
- Cardamom – optional
- Nuts – Pistachios/Almonds (for garnish/optional)
Let the mix continue to simmer till it thickens. It takes a good 30-40 minutes.Give it a stir every now and then, to prevent browning of the pan bottom. Also scraping off the sides once in a while adds to the thickening and intensifies the taste.
You can see how the milk and sugar change colour and starts to thicken !Once the mix reaches a halwa like consistency, add elaichi if required and then switch off flame.
The sweet is ready for devouring !
